A Montana ranching family faces off against others who are encroaching on their land. Forrie J. Smith, who plays Lloyd, is a veteran of the rodeo world. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) often seems to "forget" his Montana accent and revert to his usual SoCal speaking voice.. Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Summer TV Shows You Aren’t on Your Radar (2018). (Review is for the first two seasons only) I went into this series not expecting to like it, but the story, acting, and cinematography are top-notch. It’s basically Montana mob wars with the occasional huge dose of testosterone (cowboys with guns on horseback while fishing)! Costner is a top-notch actor and the Duttons are the lead. The series is at its best when it presents a chessboard of moves between the Duttons and their enemies. The show falters early in the second season, but picks itself up midway through. Kelsey Asbille is the weakest link in the role of Monica and she’s poorly acted, the story is clumsily thrown off, and the acting simply misses the scene where Rip is in. Thomas Rainwater is also excellent. The story is buzzing, and the scenery is beautiful. Just as Cormac McCarthy’s “All The Pretty Horses” was a bit more raw and brutal than the title suggests, this show feels similar. I highly recommend it and wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
