Synopsis
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler lands in a high-profile job she’s not suited for, with tectonic effects on her marriage and political future. Producers convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the fledgling American Embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely bestowed on a film or screen production, especially an American one.

Although it is accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London next to Buckingham Palace, producers used a country house outside the city for filming purposes. Featured at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024). Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger of gigantic proportions.
I don’t know if my heart can handle a Season 3
I almost had a heart attack in the last few minutes of Season 2. At first I thought this was going to be a quiet, slow political drama. Maybe another kind of *feel good* TV drama like Madame Secretary.
Boy was I wrong
The Diplomat will keep you hooked with every episode. You’ll watch it on repeat like a starving animal. This is political theater at its finest.
It’s even more brutal than my wildest dreams
And even if it’s only a tenth of what ACTUALLY happens in US politics and the various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, diplomacy), it’s still a wild ride. Keri Russell once again plays a strong female lead that reminded me why I loved her performance in The Americans so much. She’s outstanding!
