I predicted the plot twist in the first act. There’s nothing original going on here, and it borrows heavily from Tarantino’s style of breaking the film into (in this case, unstructured) “chapters.” The premise of this film is so unbelievable and so unsupported by any historical evidence that it borders on the offensive. Listen, this film was enjoyable to watch for its sheer entertainment value, but as any kind of allegory, “lesson,” or statement about the culture it so clearly tries to be, it falls flat. If anything, it manages to subvert *most* viewers’ expectations, but that’s about it. I really don’t have a lot of love for this movie, and the effusive praise comes down to three things: 1) novelty bias (younger reviewers), 2) cool filming and cinematography, and 3) great work by the entire cast. 5.5/10.
