(March 22, 1935 – March 19, 2024)
The film’s biggest flaw was that many of the characters in this film are over the top to the point of not being taken seriously. For example, Brendan Fraser, despite being a Hollywood icon with some truly great films under his belt, was infuriating in this film. His character had a cartoonish, exaggerated, somewhat childish pattern of behavior that was simply not believable.
It was a huge step back from his last film Palm Springs, which was quite enjoyable
I blame this mistake on the man who set the tone for the film, director Max Barbakow. The relationship between Brolin and Dinklage, our titular “brothers,” felt forced and at times dull throughout the film. Their arguments felt scripted, which is the exact opposite of what you want to feel in a film.
In short, the lackluster script was only exacerbated by the slow-burning on-screen chemistry
I never found myself invested in their family development because the script never quite managed to evoke those feelings in the viewer. It may be worth a watch if you’ve been through a lot of the streaming catalogs available, but it shouldn’t be at the top of your to-do list. 4/10.
